Winery
Figula Winery was founded in 1993 in the Balaton region, known as the jewel of the Pannonian landscape. Our great-grandfather, István Tolnay, was one of the most prestigious winemakers in Balatonfüred in the 19th century, so the path was marked for us. In order to achieve the highest quality, the family carries out and supervises every process from the care of the vines to the bottling of the wines. While respecting traditions, we use the most modern technical and technological possibilities in our work.
Our vineyards are located within a 6 km radius of the winery, in Balatonfüred, Balatonszőlős, Pécsely and Tihany.
On the currently 30-hectare estate – in the spirit of terroir farming in the classical sense – we present the diversity of the wine region by treating the produce of our vineyards separately and working with strict yield restrictions.
As a result of conscientious and rigorous professional work, we have won serious recognition with our wines at numerous domestic and international competitions – Bordeaux, Brussels, Paris. In recognition of his many years of work, Mihály Figula † was awarded the highest professional recognition of our country in 2000, the honorary title of “Wine Producer of the Year”. He was a member of the Hungarian Wine Academy and the Pannon Winemakers Guild, which brings together the country’s leading wineries. His work is continued with respect by his family.
His son, Mihály Figula Jr., was awarded the “Winemaker of Winemakers” award in 2019, and in 2022 he also won the title of “Winemaker of the Year”.
Our winery primarily produces white wines, so we grow 80% white and 20% red grapes on our vineyards.
Our main varieties: Olaszrizling, Zenit, Szürkebarát, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Sárgamuskotály, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Kékfrankos.
The most important aspect in making our wines is to highlight the characteristics of the growing area. Our selection includes light, fruity, youthful and full-bodied, late-harvest, long-aged wines, which of course also divide the winemaking technology into two. Our goal is to create a unique cellar style, which, combined with the opportunities offered by the growing area, results in special quality."
Figula Winery's wines have received numerous international and domestic awards over the decades. In 2018, Köves 2016 won the Platinum medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards as the first Hungarian dry white wine. Figula wine was a gold medalist at the Berliner Wine Trophy in 2022, 2024 and 2025. In 2023, Sóskút Olaszrizling 2022 became the Hungarian Wine Grand Prix Winner. Öreghegy Olaszrizling 2022 received the "Wine of the Parliament" award in 2024. In 2025, Kékfrankos 2023 became the second best Blue Frank in Europe and Hungary in the Decanter Magazine "Blaufränkisch across Europe" test. In 2026, Öreghegy Olaszrizling 2023 won the "Wine of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences" award among the top category white wines of the national certified wine competition.
